Lawyer Kayla Upchurch

Kayla L. Upchurch is a 6th generation Georgian and is proud to have the opportunity to help the people of North Georgia with their legal needs. After attending Chattahoochee High School in Alpharetta and accepting a full athletic scholarship, Kayla joined the Georgia Southern University women's basketball team and then transferred to Georgia College in Milledgeville. She was selected to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team each year and was also selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team in her senior season. Kayla graduated summa cum laude from Georgia College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Pre-Law concentration, with a Minor in History. Kayla qualified for the President's List every semester, and she was the class of 2015 commencement speaker and Valedictorian at Georgia College.

Following her undergraduate studies, Kayla immediately took a position as a legal assistant and then worked in Governor Deal's Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs before entering law school.

Kayla attended the University of Georgia School of Law, where she was an active member of the Family Law Society and the Women Law Students Association. She was a Tara Baker Memorial Scholar and was also chosen as a Dean's Ambassador for the law school. During her time as a "Law Dawg," she worked as a summer law clerk at a family law firm, as well as a legal intern with the City of Roswell, Georgia. In her last year at UGA Law, Kayla worked as a law clerk in Governor Deal’s Office of Executive Counsel and then with the Honorable Judge Philip C. Smith in the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit where she gained valuable experience in a variety of civil and government matters.

Prior to joining Grisham, Poole & Carlile, PC, Kayla was an associate attorney for almost 4 years at a large metro-Atlanta family law firm where she handled litigation in family law-related matters all over the state, and most recently worked at another family law firm in Canton. Kayla provides resolution-focused representation, while also being a strategic, zealous advocate for her clients in the courtroom. Kayla is focused primarily on handling essentially all family law matters, including contested and uncontested divorces, child custody disputes and custody modifications, child support issues, contempt, alimony, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, and legitimations. Additionally, she handles criminal matters and juvenile court cases in Cherokee County and surrounding counties. Kayla also provides Guardian ad Litem services for custody matters.

Kayla is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Young Lawyer’s Division, and the Family Law section of the State Bar. She is also involved in the Blue Ridge Bar Association, Forsyth County Bar Association, and the Cobb County Bar Association. On a personal level, Kayla and her husband live in North Georgia and she enjoys trying new restaurants and visiting local breweries, wineries, and distilleries in her free time. Kayla is an avid sports fan and can be found loudly cheering on the Dawgs, the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta United, and the Georgia College Bobcats.
