Lawyer Catie Blackwell
Catie Blackwell, a seventh-generation Cherokee County resident, graduated in 2013 from Creekview High School in Canton before attending the University of North Georgia, where she graduated in 2017 with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration. While at UNG, Catie held leadership positions in a handful of organizations, including the Delta Zeta Sorority, the Panhellenic Council, and the Student Conduct Committee, which determined whether students violated the Student Code of Conduct and determined sanctions when violations occurred.
Catie attended the University of Georgia School of Law, where she served in the Student Bar Association. Catie also served as a student attorney for the Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation Clinic, Georgia Legal Services Program, and the Georgia Capital Defender Office. In these roles, Catie assisted juvenile human trafficking survivors in dependency cases in juvenile court; assisted elderly and low-income individuals with landlord-tenant issues, domestic violence, consumer protection issues, property issues, prepared wills and power of attorney documents; and assisted in representing individuals charged with capital crimes and facing the death penalty. Catie spent summers interning for another Canton firm, where she assisted with felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, criminal appeals, and divorce and custody cases.
After graduating law school, Catie worked as staff attorney to Judge David L. Cannon, Jr. In Cherokee County Superior Court. The role included managing a docket of 750+ civil cases and around 400+ criminal cases. Catie researched myriad legal issues and prepared orders for Judge Cannon based upon her research and knowledge of the facts of each case.
Catie is licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia and has been admitted to practice in the Georgia Court of Appeals. She is also the current President of the Blue Ridge Bar Association and is involved in the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers Division.
At Grisham, Poole & Carlile, Catie is focused on handling divorce and child custody cases, misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, juvenile criminal and dependency cases, as well as estate planning.
